Star Story 3.00 has been released


Well, I am pleased to announced that Star Story I - The Goddess, version 3.00 has been released. Please note, this version is to be considered beta. Most bugs should be fixed now, but Edsger Dijkstra did once say that debugging can only prove the presence of bugs, but never their absence. So forgive me if some bugs still pop up. Just hop over to my Issue tracker if you still find any.

Now what stuff has been changed?

  1. The game has been translated from the Apollo Engine to the SCI (Scyndi's Creative Interpreter) engine.
  2. Thanks to that one, all loading times have been reduced SIGNIFICANTLY. Battles and going to new locations is now almost instantly on most maps, which was one of the most important reasons for this change anyway.
  3. The game can now also run under Linux (without the needs of WINE, emulators or VMs).
  4. The new game is better set up for different screen resolutions and can auto-resize. Please note, that the graphics are not vector or hires, so some scaling effects can be visible
  5. Too many people whined about the main font being unreadable, so I replaced Robotica with my own Ryanna font. Hopefully that "solves" that issue.
  6. I did a bit of reconfiguring on the combat timer. Some battles were boring in the old setting due to enemies being fast and making you wait forever. That issue now belongs to the past.
  7. Four secret dungeons have been added, which can be unlocked with the Medal system. At the present time Star Story was the only RPG of mine not to feature that, so here goes.
  8. Several bugs the old game suffered from have been fixed now
  9. Going for the Medals dungeons can also unlock a secret ability for each character. Please note that they do not count for achievement triggering by getting all abilities. Wendicka and Crystal could already score a secret ability when they have all their other abilities, but for that too the abilities scored due to completing the Medals dungeons won't count
  10. Unfortunately the savegames made with the Apollo version of the game are NOT compatible with this new version. Although I won't promise anything, but when there's a wish for a tool to convert these savegames, I will look into it. I'm afraid the differences between the two engines is too big though.
  11. Several spelling and grammar errors I found in both the English and Dutch scenario files have been fixed. Please note, I'm sure I didn't get all of them. You can also use my issue tracker if you found any. (And please note, report language errors in a POLITE way or your issue will be closed and you will be banned from all my repositories. This should go without saying, but this is the internet and spelling errors have always been a thing to be arrogant about for some silly reason).
  12. For SCI I improved the underlying Dijkstra pathfinder routine. This allows the heroes to not only walk horizontally and vertically, but also diagonally. The monsters on the map will do this too, though.
  13. In the earlier versions of Star Story the monsters on the map could really slow down the game. I rewrote the script controlling them from scratch. Now they no longer move on the map when not active, but the game definitely runs faster. Some enemies have become easier to avoid in the process, but other harder, and outrunning them has definitely become harder.
  14. An extra tune for regular encounters has been added

Well, I hope now the game has become more stable for the future.
