A downloadable tool for Windows

Stach is a JCR6 analyzer program. It allows you to browse my JCR6 files you can find in the folders of nearly all my games.

JCR6 stands for "Jeroen's collected Resource version 6". Now Stach can also read my old JCR5 which is no longer in use.

Aside from JCR6 it also supports

- Tape Archive (TAR), although the support is limited and far from optimal
- Code archives (.a), although this support is not very good either
- Where's All the Data (WAD) as used in DOOM, Heretic and Hexen.
- Quake Packed files (PAK) as used in Quake I.
- Westwood Packed files (PAK) as used in Kyrandia and Lands of Lore.

Please note, that Stach can only browse these game files, as it will not understand the content of all files inside these pack files and mostly show their content in HEX codes if you try to view them internally.

Important to note is that Stach is primarily designed to keep a bit track of the packed files in my own projects. But as I value transparency in my work, you may use it to analyze what I'm doing. Stach does have a syntax highlight feature for many programming langues like Lua, JavaScript and also my own Neil language, even though you'll not be likely to find those kind of files inside JCR or any packed file used in games languages such as C and C++. My "Kitty" engine was used for that.

Stach is however still in Alpha, so some very nasty bugs or features not working properly (or even not at all). Be prepared for that.

Stach has been coded in C# and WPF and uses the .NET framework.

If you wonder about the name "Stach". The utility was named after the protagonist of the Dutch children's novel "Koning van Katoren" (King of Katoren), in which the king has died, and since then some ministers who are power-hungry and corrupt rule the nation ever since. Then it appears that the ministers were tasked to pick a new king, however they refused not wanting to lose their power. Stach applies for the job of king, and ministers initially refuse, but know they are not above the law. They give Stach 7 impossible to complete tasks (not to mention life threatening), and if Stach can complete them all, he'll be the new King of Katoren.
Now that I think about it, Stach's tasks about the "Knobbelneuzen" (which was his 5th task) is very similar to the situation we are in now.
